ROBBIE KEANE - THROW HIM TO THE WOLVES?
29-4-10

Speculation is gathering that Robbie Keane will be returning to one of his many boyhood clubs, Wolves in this case, when his loan to Celtic expires at the end of the season.

It is not like Keane has disappointed at Celtic, in fact nothing could be further from the truth, Keane was named Celtic's Player Of The Year having played 15 games in which he scored 13 goals.

But it looks increasingly likely that he does not fit into Harry Redknapp's plans for next season.

It is always difficult to keep four or five strikers happy at any club - the numbers never add up - but the speed with which Keane settled in across the boarder suggests he relished a new challenge.

He is also famous for returning to his former clubs, as Spurs fans well know, and going back to the club where his English career started may well be very appealing to the striker.

It looked like Redknapp would 'rid himself of the Russian', by selling Roman Pavlyuchenko at the end of this season, but the resurgence of Pav also points to an exit for another of the Spurs frontmen. Keane is simply the most obvious choice.

Last season I labelled Keane "expensively pointless" with regards to his Spurs - Liverpool - Spurs transfer.

Spurs paid a cash strapped Leeds United £7 million for the striker and then sold him to Liverpool for a whopping £20.3 million, however they then shelled out an initial fee of £12 million to bring him back to White Hart Lane (rising to £16 million with add ons).

Keane's previous clubs read like this: Wolverhampton Wanderers, Coventry City, Internazionale, Leeds United, Spurs, Liverpool, Spurs.

But for all his wanderlust, the Irishman has spent eight seasons in total at White Hart Lane, including this one.

Keane scores goals wherever he goes, but with prolific strikers such as Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch, not to mention a decent haul from elsewhere on the pitch, and a no doubt healthy price tag, the Irishman may be more use to Spurs plying his trade elsewhere.
