At MFC in the Community's recent 'Boro's Got Talent' event, ComeOnBoro.com's Elle Brunton caught up with Boro defender Andrew 'Tayls' Taylor, to talk Brad Jones, unsupportive fans, and the return to the Riverside of Sean St Ledger.
EB: Three points on Saturday, and the return of Sean St Ledger to the Riverside! He got an interesting response from the Boro fans... (For anyone who doesn't know, The Boro faithful belted out a rousing chorus of "Sean St Ledger, we sent him back home!")
I noticed you gave him a hug after the final whistle, what did he make of his reception?
AT: He said "Bloody hell I got a quite a bit of stick there!" He was quite surprised. But I think he dealt with it well.
"We've kept in touch since he went back, he's a good lad.
"The main thing is when he was here he played well, he was a good player for us.
"He's gone back, I'm sure he had his reasons, and he's a Preston player again."
EB: Brad Jones has returned to the starting line-up in the last two games... just to check, Danny Coyne is not injured, Brad is just being preferred?
AT: Yeah, there's no injury to Danny, Brad has come back in and I think he's done well.
EB: How much does it affect you as a defender when their is a change of goalkeeper?
AT: I think it does affect you a little bit but they are both good keepers, its not like we have gone from one extreme to another.
EB: Brad's got two man of the match awards (from BBC Tees) in the last two games...
AT: Yes, I'm really pleased for Brad, he's come in for a whole lot of stick from the fans which I have to say I think has been out of order.
"If you are a fan you should never get on the backs of the players, it never helps!
"And Brad and us defenders hear the most because of where we are on the pitch.
"But he's come in and shown a bit of what he can do, I think he was one of the best players in the last two matches.
EB: And we've got Watford away on Saturday, are you looking forward to another away match?
AT: I'm looking forward to any game at the minute!
EB: But as a team we are now looking stronger at home after a very good start on the road and then a dip...
AT: Yeah, I think that's something that most teams go through, you have a dip and you're better away and then you're better at home, but it is nice to put a run together.
"If we had been more consistent and kept our early run going we would have been up in the top four.
EB: We seem to have a more settled backline, albeit with you coming in and out of it, after a series of changes all over the pitch, do you think that has helped the team become more consistent?
AT: I think that's one of the problems, we have had a bit of a tough time with a new manager and a lot of injuries. But I think he has got to know everybody now and he knows his team, and who he wants to keep in now.
Taylor is another player, like fellow academy graduate Brad Jones, who became something of a target for the disgruntled fans last season, despite playing at different times with a variety of injuries including cracked ribs and a bruised foot.
Now back to his best, he made a big difference when he replaced the not fully fit Emanuel Pogatetz against Preston on Tuesday evening and has been playing well in his sporadic appearances in recent weeks.
Three points against Watford tomorrow are a must and the Hartlepool-born defender will be looking to cement his place at left-back.
