On Saturday the man who scored the winning goal against Boro for Hull at the KC Stadium back in December came full circle, clinching a priceless victory for the Boro against the Tigers at the Riverside.
Speaking to MFC's Gordon Cox as he was presented with a bottle of champagne, The Coors Brewers Man of the Match, Marlon King was thrilled with the 3-1 victory but justifiably cautious in promising a rosy Premier League future for the Boro.
With regards to his match winning goal, he said:
"I hope that it can maybe change around the team and help keep us up"
"It never helps to be in that position [relegation zone] but you do your best, you just stick with it and get results.
"We knew how important it was. Obviously it [Boro's recent run] was disappointing especially for the fans who went to Bolton.
"We deserved the three points.
"It is up to everyone who is associated with the club will dig in to keep the club up."
Responding to Coxes' questioning regarding the comments Hull manager Phil Brown made about him during the week leading up to the match, King simply stated:
"I don't get involved in all that, obviously it is disappointing to see it in the press. Obviously I scored so maybe I proved something."
And King dismissed any thought that he might still have alliances to Hull, saying:
"What Hull do is their problem. I'm completely dedicated to Middlesbrough Football Club."
The win was the first comprehensive victory Boro have managed since beting Liverpool at the Riverside in February and King is aware that the result will have given other relegation threatened clubs cause for concern. He said:
"Its the teams around us who thought they were comfortable are a little bit more uneasy."
"We've got a fighting spirit."
He was also adament that the fans should savour the win but that the team would be back in training Monday morning and ready to work.
"Yes it is but the season isn't finished until its finished. As it is we want to enjoy it."
"It would be easy to get carried away. We've got to beat Fulham, and maybe Arsenal, then we can get carried away!"
"I hope everyone enjoyed it."
Oh we did Marlon, more of the same this weekend please!
